Blog Improvement Project, Part 1

Update, 7/27/12: Because I’ve realized that I’m playing with fire by using copyrighted images, I’m removing all copyrighted pictures (or pictures that I’m unsure about) from this blog. Since this profoundly alters this particular post, I’m making note of it here. Sorry about that. #1 and #2 from this contest have had to be removed. They were a picture of Mission Vao, from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and a picture of Buffy and Spike, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I want to improve Don’t Forget To Feed The Baby.

It’s important to me that this blog be something that my followers look forward to reading, and that they think of fondly when they are not reading it.

So, in order to make this blog all that it can be, I have conceived my Blog Improvement Project. Over the last months, I have looked critically at other, more successful, blogs; I have analyzed what makes them so great; and I am now ready to copy emulate mirror incorporate the things that I perceive to be the keys to their success. I am ready to, incrementally, turn this into a cookie cutter successful blog.

Please join me, as I take Don’t Forget To Feed The Baby from blah to … well, whatever it will be when we’re done. Hooray!

Part 1: Self-Portrait

It seems that, when I decided that I would only use obscured pictures of myself and my family, I really missed the boat. Forums, online guides, and the precedent set by other bloggers all seem to agree that in order for people to want to hear what I have to say, they MUST know what I look like. I discussed this with Loving Husband, and we agreed that getting more hits and being more ‘relatable’ to my readers is much more important than our sense of personal privacy. Therefore, I’ve gathered together several portraits of me, one of which will appear on my And This Is Me page. I would love to have your help deciding which one is the best, most flattering portrait, and the most appropriate for my little blog. Please vote in the comments.

#3: This is a drawing done of me the week before I gave birth to Sausage. I don’t think it’s very flattering, but it is in keeping with the blog.

#4: This is from this morning. Clearly, it’s not my best look, but it is true to life.

#5: This picture is so flattering, it’s almost wishful thinking. I had to include it, though.

Well, what do you all think? Which picture best encompasses your idea of this blogger, and of this blog? Please leave a comment and let me know!

  1. I go for the first one, blue street urchin or the last one — who doesn’t love Glenda?

  2. Well, we all have our alter egos. I keep looking for my doppelgänger to see if maybe she’s a more interesting person than I am. 😀

  3. Shouldn’t we all get a little wishful thinking? I say go for #5. The accessories are fabulous.

    • They are pretty great. The only thing I’d be missing is wings, and they’re not really necessary when you can float around in a giant bubble.

  4. I also like the first one. I’m suspicious of the morning picture… it looks eerily like me in the morning. Are you sure it’s really of you?

  5. I really enjoy #4, because although you appear to be looking down on us, we can see up your nose. Last laugh sort of thing…

  6. While I totally get a Glinda feel from your blog, I like the urgent feel of #4. Good luck!

    • Thanks! #4 is me before I’ve had coffee. Glinda is me when I’ve had coffee, a makeover, and am standing in very soft lighting. And the person looking at me is drunk.

  7. I like your hair in that one pic, just crop out the ex boyfriend. Is it weird that my alter ego types are all men? Yeah…it’s pretty weird.

  8. Oh, definitely go with #2. It says, I’m pretty but tough…in a deadly sort of way. And also that you’re attracted to things that are bad for you. That is what you’re going for here, right?

    • Oh yes. Have I mentioned that my Loving Husband is a Hellmouth demon? It’s totally hottttt. Makes gatherings with the in-laws awkward, though.

  9. You and I could be twins, based on photo #4, which looks much like I do first thing in the morning. And you look fab in that pink number in photo #5!

  10. Whenever you are posting on my blog, I always have an angelic vision of you. I love your current picture but if you must change it, I vote for number 5!

  11. I have to go with #2. I’m a Buffy fanatic. I looovvvvveeeeeee Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I love Spike. When I saw that photo, I turned into a 10-year-old girl at her first Justin Bieber concert. I screamed and jumped up and down a little. It was embarrassing. For everyone.

    • That’s pretty much my reaction to Spike, as well. Except that I add in a lot of drool and lewd comments, because seriously. Dude is wicked sexy. I pretty much can’t get enough Buffy.

  12. #5 all the way – cause there is no blog like home…

    • HAHAHAHAHAHA! I click my mouse three times! I think I’ll miss you most of all.

      • No, Aunt Em, this was a real, truly live blog. And I remember that some of it wasn’t very nice – but most of it was beautiful.
But just the same, all I kept saying to everybody was, ‘I want to go blog!’ And they sent me here to blog.
        Doesn’t anybody believe me?

      • I’m laughing too hard to respond appropriately. Well done, you!

  13. #4 Is consistent with the image I get when I think about feeding babies. 🙂

  14. Dear Kathy,

I think number 3 because Sausage is in it too even though you can’t see him.

    Love Dotty xxx

P.S. Are water births as good as people say they are? 😉

    • I don’t know. I was beached, my internal organs were being crushed beneath the weight of my own house-like bulk. Next time I’m hoping that I’ll manage to get to the water.

  15. So funny! Thanks for following my blog and I look forward to reading more of yours!
